Abstract

In this paper, key processes of change associated with digitalisation are outlined, with an emphasis on the global impacts on production. The analysis highlights of important processes of global change that are emerging from digitalisation, facilitating altered conditions under which small firms, resources and workers interact in, and are brought into global production.

However, to date, there has been a tendency for sporadic analysis which focusses on specific technologies, and with limited integration with the forms of global production networks by which the modern economy is orientated. As such, work has not provided a clear outline of the broader structural shifts occurring linked to digitalisation or the impacts on uneven development more broadly.
